The home of Museong Pambayan ng Morong, is a historic building that sits on a declared historical site, was the seat of Government for the Distrito Politico Militar de Morong.” It was created in 1853, with the encomiendas carved out of “La Laguna” province and the districts North of the Lake. Its first “Gobernador” was Francisco Turrentigue who held office and established his command at this site.
With the reorganization of the province into Rizal, other municipalities were added and the seat of the Provincial Government was transferred to Pasig during the American colonization. The Commandancia was subsequently used as a school building, a municipal hall, a public elementary school building (the Old Central), and a high school (Morong High School). In the 1960’s, it became the Municipal Hall of Morong. When the municipal hall transferred to its new location in 2012, the building was the declared as the home of Museong Pambayan ng Morong. This was formalized in 2015 with an ordinance.
